Peggy's Cove
About Peggy's Cove
Peggy's Cove is a small village in rural Nova Scotia that has remained active in the fishing industry since its founding in 1811. It is well known for its typical east-coast style, with houses perched along a small inlet on the Atlantic Coast. While the village itself is beautiful it is most known for the Peggy's Cove Lighthouse.
Due to its close proximity to Halifax, Peggy's Cove is one of the most visited tourist sites in Nova Scotia, with the Lighthouse quite possibly being one of the most photographed sites in the province. Payment Accepted:

Mar 31, 2010 Peggy's Cove is one of the most visited sites in Nova Scotia. It's absolutely gorgeous! Granite rock wraps the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, and it makes the perfect place to go for a walk or sit and watch the waves. The lighthouse is the main attraction, and is a working post office in the summer months. (perfect place to mail some postcards, with its own unique postmark) There is a restaurant directly on the Peggy's Cove site, The Sou'Wester, where you can have a wide range of seasfood....and their ginger cake is the best! Walking through the village is perfect for a few photo op's, as well as visiting the 30m (100ft) long William DeGarthe rock carving, that depicts 32 fishermen, their wives, St Elmo with wings spread, and the legendary Peggy of Peggy's Cove. A few kilometers down the road from the lighthouse you'll also find the Memorial to Swiss Air Flight 111 that crashed into the Atlantic near Peggy's Cove in 1998. There were no survivors, but the search and rescue mission lasted for months in the area. Peggy's Cove, and the area surrounding it, is a perfect place to get away from it all and experience rural Nova Scotia. It's breath-taking and so worth a day trip from Halifax! Related Links
