Niagara Falls actually consists of two sets of falls, separated by the tiny Goat Island.  The Canadian falls is named Horseshoe Falls and receives about 90% of the flow of water from the Niagara River.  This is the waterfall that is most commonly associated with Niagara Falls.

This waterfall is approximately 800 meters wide and 50 meters high, pumping an average of over 100,000 cubic meters of water each minute.  This is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world.

There are several ways to experience the falls, from walking along the bank and into the tunnels by the falls, or by taking a boat ride to the foot of the falls.  At night, the Horseshoe Falls are illuminated until around 9:00pm in the evening.

The Niagara Falls is a might waterfall on the border Canada-USA. It can be seen fromboth sides, but the "right side" is the Canadian side, where you get the best view at the biggest fall - The Horse Shoe Fall. If you'd like to, you could take one of the tour boats and see the falls from underneath. And of course there are alots of restaurants and souvenir shops all around. Don't miss it, it absolutely worth a visit!

Awesome in summer, but try yourself at it in winter in about -17°C! The massive packs of ice make it an entirely different experience!

I first came to Niagara Falls during the summer, and then recently again in the heart of the bloody cold Ontario winter. I was shivering in my big fluffy coat the whole time, hot chocolate in hand notwithstanding, but it was soo worth it. I didn't expect to see the waters below the falls almost completely frozen at the surface and was amazed at the sight of massive tumbling sheets of water plummeting into the frozen basin of water.

If you go in the summer, you HAVE to get on the Maid in the Mist - a boat ride that takes you close to the bottom of the falls. The views from the boat are unbelievable -- there's just something magical about seeing the strong currents coming right down your way and hearing the crushing thunderous roar, well, also right in your face.

Niagara falls changes as the seasons shift and with each change , a different personality. If can only go once though, apparently the locals say sunrise in February is where it's at.

The first time I visited Niagara Falls was in February, and you wouldn't believe how cold it was! It's amazing how it seems to get under your skin. But being there was worth every bit of discomfort! Seeing the falls partly frozen was incredible, and is something I'm glad I experienced. I went a second time in November and it was much warmer, but also a LOT wetter! At the end by the falls it was like you were in a rain storm, whereas everywhere else is was a beautiful sunny day. (Bring a raincoat, you're gonna get wet!) There were great rainbows from all of the mist, and the views for photos can't be beat. A definite must if you're in the Southern Ontario/Northern New York region!

The falls, the most obvious thing to visit when you're in Niagara Falls. It's actually a better view from Canada than from the United States, so I'd recommend crossing the border (takes you 5 minutes) and watch it from the Canada side of the waterfalls. What I thought was the most fun thing to do, was take a boat ride and get really close to the falls. They give you a raincoat (but you still get wet because of the mist that comes off of the Falls) and special sandals, so everyone on the boat is either blue or yellow. The power with which the water crashes down is very impressive, a real force of nature. I'd definitely recommend going there.
