Located in the North Sound of Grand Cayman, Stingray City is a series of shallow sandbars in which large numbers of stingrays congregate.  It's possible here to pet, feed and interact with stingrays.  The thought for why there are so many stingrays is that it was a place where fisherman went over the users to clean their catch which attracted the large number of stingrays.

Didn't think I'd like it - thought it would be too touristy - but loved it. The key is to go on your own with a local and stay away from the swarm of cruise shippers. We went early, before the cruise ships came in, and it was an experience not to be missed. Just a few of us on this sandbar 5 miles offshore - the water was an unbelievably clear crystal blue-green color - and as we approached the sandbar, we saw the sea turn black as the school of stingrays approached us. We anchored, jumped in the water, and dozens of stingrays swam between our legs and nudged us like cats looking for food. We hand fed them squid, got a few stingray hickeys, and drank rum all the way back to shore. Doesn't get much better than that. http://members.tripod.com/~JerseyGrrl/stingray.jpg

Fantastisch...

The water was so clear! The boat seemed to drop us off in the middle of the ocean. The waters surrounding us were teeming with creatures so alien-like they couldn't be real... stingrays are an amazing sight to see and even better when they swim right up to you! There are some incredibly large stingrays that are pretty intimidating but you get used to it.

This was so much fun! Get boated out to a sand bar in warm, crystal clear water with about 20 stingrays and get to feed them squid! We had a great tour boat who took photo's of us kissing and holding them, then afterwards took us out to go snorkling and conch fishing! What an experience

the sting rays surprised me with a 'nice' souvenir: i left the cayman islands with some love bites/hickeys from them, -this was because my uncle rubbed squid on my hips without me knowing it. that was an experience that i'll never forget!
