This Moai (rock statue) is the only one on easter Island that has been reconstructed with pukao (hat, made of a different red rock) and a set of eyes. It is near the Tahai complex, within walking distance of Hanga Roa.

This island is unique because of its strange sculptured statues. The statues evolved with the years and until the 17th century they were still made.I sugest to read some facts about how the people evolved and were distroyed by their own ambitions-something very human -but with catastrophic effects when it happens on a small island like this one.In the evening or very early in the morning go out and sit or stand in front of one of thisstatues and I guarantie that you might feel the power that it produced on the people of those times.Be carefull-you might begin to believe in statues-!!

The only fully reconstructed Moai on the island, at least as much as archaeologists believe they would have originally looked. As this is close to the Tahai Complex, it is smart to get a knowledgeable guide to provide some insight and history into the area. Depending on time of day, it may be hard to get a good photo - later in the day is the best time to visit as the sunset here is very impressive.
