The Mercado Artesanal is a small market where a number of small vendors sell their arts and crafts to tourists. There is also a fresh produce / food market here, and a small little cafe. Prices here are better than at hotels and variety of crafts are more than you'll find elsewhere.

The Mercado Artesanal is the best place to pick up some wood carvings or Rapa Nui culture souvenirs. There are around 20 or so table top vendors in the building who all have a selection of different carvings, t-shirts, postcards, jewelry and other items available for sale. Some have impressive artwork and detailed sculptures. It is a much better experience buying directly from the islanders who have created / carved the products themselves in many cases.
