Rano Raraku Crater
About Rano Raraku Crater
Rano Raraku is the spot where most famous Easter Island / Isla Paascua photos are taken. This is the birthplace - the quarry - from which the Moai rock statues were carved. Both the insides and outsides of this crater are littered with Moai, some complete, some incomplete, some toppled over.

Oct 14, 2008 Unbelievable spot. I thought one hour would be enough to walk around and get bored of the Moai here, but you need at least 2 hours to explore both the inside and outside. You'll find some special Moai here, including the kneeling Moai Tukuturi and huge Moai that were too big to lift or move. Inside the crater, and along the crater rim you'll find horses hanging out, which make for a nice photo composition.
