Built especially for the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics, the Beijing National Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the track and field competitions. It has been nicknamed the the "Bird's Nest" (鳥巢) for its architectural design featuring an outer frame made up of massive curved metal beams meshed together in a seemingly random pattern. In all, 36km of metal beam was used to form this outer frame. Construciton of the stadium was completed in March 2008, after 6 years of work, and cost a total of 423 million USD. The structure is 330 metres, (1,082 ft) long and 220 metres (721 ft) wide, with a seeting capacity of 91,000.

Uhu ... what a nice place !! I love it ... Perfect place to take some nice fotos. Crowded with tourists, and perfectly regulated by the hordes of employers. Worth to take a half day excursion. If you wanna get a coffee, prepare yourself for a long walk :)

It's architecture is so unique compared to other stadiums of the world. So much thought was put into designing this building to showcase at the Olympics that you have to stop and see it for yourself.
