Rice Terraces
Over 800 meters in height
Payment Accepted:
Getting there:
Single-day tours depart from Guilin pretty much every day (tours tend to cost around 120 Yuan and cover admittion into the terraces).  To get there on your own from Guilin, you need to bus to Longsheng (1.5 hours) and from there catch another bus onto Pingan (1 hour) or Dazhai (1.5 hours).

I really wished we had more time to explore this area - unfortunately, we only had one day, and opted to take the single-day tour from Guilin. The tour starts off by taking you to a small village down in the valley below the rice terraces, which is charming in it's own right, but they put on this show we heard from other travelers that's really now worth it (we opted out of the show and explored the village instead), and this stop down at the village only leaves you with 2.5 hours at the terraces themselves (with one hour taken up to eat lunch). Anyhow, the terraces themselves are really worth the visit, and I'd strongly recommend staying over for at least one night so you have more time to explore and possibly even hike to a neighboring village and back.

The pingan rice terrase worth staying a night. From Yangshou and Guilin there offers for touring the area Very nice arew where u can encounter minority groups. The tour stops before the Pingan rice terrase in the long hair villge nice to wallk in the villge but in no way go and see the longhair show ,u pay 10 dolar to see them realse there long hair realy not worthy,i expacted for more. The pingan rice terrase is beutiful that is why i recomend to stay a night in the vilge or the vilge near by,that way if u get good wheater u can enjoy the sunset and the sunrise on the rice fields. While if u takeing the tour your time is limiteded. Enjoy

Though impressive for its engineering feat of over 800 meters in height, these terraces pale in comparison (and are more expensive) to the Yuanyang rice terraces of Yunnan province which cover an enormous amount of land (almost 31,000 acres). If caught on a clear day, these terraces are pretty and give nice panoramic views. Winter season I feel is the best time to see rice fields due to being flooded and reflecting the sky/sun, but the Dragon's Backbone is usually covered in fog. You can get your food cooked in bamboo at a restaurant on the climb up, which is a novelty food item here, but it is overpriced.
