Dehang is a nature reserve near Jishou.  The little village has a ton of charm and a few paths to hike, including one leisurely one which has a large waterfall, and claims to be the tallest waterfall in China.  Most visiting Chinese tourists will hike this stone pathway.  A second, more strenuous (and much less traveled) walkway, is among paddies that follows a stream up cliff sides.  The walkway that crosses the stream numerous times may become flooded after a heavy rainfall, but can be crossed nonetheless.  The walkway may become slick as you climb upward.  This  path does not loop, and will either have to hike back down or try and catch a local bus down to the park entrance.  And a third hike climbs up a steep cliff behind the village, but be careful since the pathway seems to be falling apart in many areas.  Waterfalls and karst cliffs surround this small nature reserve, creating a realxing environment.  The little village has friendly inn owners and dish food selections can be slim, but English menus are available.
