A visit to the Hailuogou Glacier in the very foothills of the Himalayas was a highlight. The bamboo forests gave way to lush, green mossy groves and then to rugged mountain terrain. The glacier was marred with morraine, giving it a dirty appearance, but at closer inspection, it is all packed ice beneath the glacial debris and the snowcapped peaks above leave further no doubt. The trekking was not difficult over the morraine, but it is best to hire a guide so you don't fall into a hidden crevasse. Try some fresh glacial water from a fresh stream!
