Oct 8, 2008 The Barkhor is the only remaining Tibetan enclave in the city. The Barkhor is the second of two traditional pilgrim circuits (the first being the Lingkor which has now all vanished under 2 lane highways and rebuilding!). The Barkhor Circuit is a short walk around the jewel of Tibet - the Jokhang - and a world away from modern Lhasa. It's now lined with market stalls (all selling basically the same things!) and colourful pilgrims the entire area is a treasure to wander and explore at various times of the day. Dec 19, 2009 The Barkhor circuit is where you will find all kinds of souvenir shops selling thangkas, sculptures, old Chinese men/women statues made of yak bone, pirated music CD's, incense sticks and food stalls selling different kinds of Tibetan food. It is basically the by lanes that surround the Jokhang temple which is the most famous temple in Lhasa. Most pilgrims walk around the temple some even on their knees or almost lying down and crawling on the ground. Oct 30, 2008 The area around the Barkhor is gorgeous. The market sells just about anything you can imagine, so take some time to wander around! The pace of life in Lhasa is so refreshingly slow because of the altitude, so it's nice to not feel hurried...and the Barkhor is a place where you can really appreciate that a lot. Oct 25, 2008 The best part about the Barkhor is to sit quietly with the pilgrims and people watch. The Tibetans nomads wander around here after walking for hundreds of kilometres. This market is a wondrous melting pot of cultures and if you slow down you can catch a little feeling of old Tibet.
