Rapids
Tiger Leaping Gorge is a 15km canyon along the Yangtze River.  Depending on the definition, the gorge can be considered one of the world's deepest river canyons.  The gorge passes between Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and Haba Xueshan creating a series of rapids.   The gorge was so named, as, according to legend, a tiger leaped across the river at its narrowest point (25 metres) to escape a hunter.

While there are a series of rapids at the gorge, the river is not consider navigable.

Surrounding the Gorge are terraces as well as a network of hiking paths.  It is possible to also visit the local villagers from the Naxi indigenous group.

This place is awesome. A dangerous walk but super fun. Stay in the halfway house (along the only route through the gorge. It's on a cliff and it has an open air toilet that has the best view on the other side of the gorge! Get there from Lijiang. At the end (or beginning depending where you start) you have to cross the river in a rickety metal boat. The owner is not always there so you may have to wait a while shouting so the guy comes down the cliffside to man the boat.
