The Xi Xi Wetlands National Park is a nice place a bit away from Hangzhou off the highway. It has boating facilities to see the birds. I was there by chance when I was visiting China for the total solar eclipse on 22nd July 2009. This was the place where we stopped on seeing the clouds clear to show us the sun being eclipsed by the moon for about five minutes of totality. There is a tidal bore park nearby which is worth seeing.
