If you're into surfing and partying this is your place. They have all kinds of hotels from expensive, lavish hotels to very cheap just a room with a bathroom and a fan kind of rooms for every budget. It's got some killer waves depending on the time of year. I wouldn't recommend it so much for swimming due to the strong currents and rip tides and pretty quick drop offs but surfing is awesome. The beach itself is more of a rocky/pebble beach so you may wanna wear your flops out there and leave them at a base station with your mates. The dining is excellent and you can hop down a stretch of bars lining the streets to get your drink on. :) everything from the beach, clubs, your hotel is all within walking distance generally. Was a rockin time and there is also Playa Hermosa just down the road if you find Jaco's swell not challenging enough for you, it's geared more for the more experienced surfer w/ bigger swells. It's too much for me being more novice but if you're lookin for bigger challenging waves go there to chill. Stay in Jaco for good decent swells and a nightlife party at night not to be forgotten. Enjoy! And watch the locals and their scams, they'll do almost anything for a buck. Watch your pocketbook in some places. Jaco not so bad but other places around watchout. :) Safe Travels to you!

This place has got some mixed memories for me , but overall it is still a really fun place to go if you are looking at experiencing the excitement of Central America. I hav been twice. The first time, 3 mates and I rented a house about 3 blocks back from the beach for a month. This is definately the way to do it, as it actually worked out way cheaper this way than staying at a hostel. The beaches in Jaco are beautiful black sand and the surf is not to crazy, so it is a good place to buy a cheap second hand board and learn the art. On my second trip there, two years later, the place had changed a little bit. The beach is still as pretty, but the town has grown a little seedier. More theft, drugs and prostitution were far more visible. If you are visiting Jaco, watch your pockets, and remember to take anything to the beach that you dont have too. But hey you dont come to this part of the world for the safety.Get out there and enjoy it. Not sure if it is still around, but look out for the beachside resturant that has a special $25us 'all you can eat lobster/all you can drink' night. That was one hell of a night (and two days after)
