Korhogo and the surrounding area is the perfect place to see the old Cote d'Ivoire. Small villages and markets can be found and the locals are always friendly. There are also some animal parks around this area that feature some species native only to the Gold Coast countries. Food can be found for cheap, but make sure that if it's meat, that they grill it until it's nearly burnt.
