Diohlecian Palace is a place to visit.. People still live in it, and it still has that atmosphere in the air :) When walking the streets you can really feel the buzz and sense of ancient time... a lot of restaurants and cafés, also there you can visit palace's basement.... a thing to see... entrance fee is 10kn. (at least it was 3 years ago)

The palace of Emperor Dioclecian is at the centre of Split ("Split" is a deformationof "palacium", the Palace). Once the Roman Empire collapsed, the palace was reconverted as living quarters, and still nowadays people are living in it. Imagine what it would be if people where living in Paris' Louvre? As a result a visit of sun-bathed historical Split is to walk in a place where historical buildings are doubling as restaurants, cafes, post offices or else.

Big and messy. Some abrupt windows show clear habitable space. Few stories below the mess there's 4* hotel. Narrow streets and composition of palace/old town are impressive though. Nice underground. Bars and restaurants are reasonably overpriced (if it is exact enough). But it is worth visit. As almost any town in Croatia.

Very nice place to look around. Sometimes it seems like you are in a big old town. But ...it's just a big palace of Dioklecian. A lot of little shops in here, price a bit high also. Enjoyed visiting the basements on the palace: some stoned things and etc.

Built in 4 century AD, the palace is now a mix of old walls and new life and inhabitants - full of ancient history and modern dynamics of open air markets, bars, restaurants, gift shops, and private flats.
