It is a renovated medieval gothic church mixed with late-baroque and rococo styles. The interior of the church is very impressive, there are nine altars and a total of 28 elements of the interior which are on the national list of movable cultural monuments. The church is 42 metres long and the gold-plated cross on the church tower was transferred from the old Zagreb cathedral which burned down in the fire of 1863. What is special about this church is the fact that the Turks turned it into a mosque during their rule. After the Turkish rule, it again becomes a catholic church, and the priest Marko Mesić, as a spiritual and national leader in the liberation from the Turks, chose st. Cross as the protector of this parish. Above the church door there is an inscription engraved in stone in Latin saying IN HOC SIGNO VINCES, which means IN THIS SIGN YOU SHALL WIN. This slogan symbolizes the victory of the cross over the crescent, that is, Christianity over Islam. Below the church yard level there are tombs with human bones, dating back to the Turkish times. People have known about this, but since they have been covered with a thick layer of hard soil, the bones have not been found. Accidentally, during the constuction works in the church yard in 2005 one layer of soil collapsed and revealed a mass tomb with bones from about twenty bodies. A detailed forensic research was never conducted so as to establish with certainty whose bones were found in the tomb. It is , however, clear that the tomb dates back to the times of the Ottoman occupation and it is the result of the battle for territory, but it does not answer the question of whether the domestic or Turkish people were buried there.
