One of Croatia's most popular attractions, Plitvice Lakes National Park features 16 beautiful lakes in shades of turquoise and striking waterfalls.  The waters flowing over the limestone and chalk have, over thousands of years, deposited travertine barriers, creating natural dams which in turn have created a series of beautiful lakes, caves and waterfalls. These geological processes continue today.  A network of planks and walkways allow good access to the lakes.  There are also some hiking trails.  The forests in the park are home to bears, wolves and many rare bird species.

Visiting Plitvice in the summer gives you views of beautiful streaming waterfalls.  These falls freeze over in the winter, offering a different type of beautiful view.  The parks can become very crowded during July and August.

Waterfalls park with pretty paths crossing lakes.

Plitvice's Lakes National Park is the first park in Croatia, in Lika-Senj county... The river Korana goes through the canyon creating 16 small lakes, which are beautifull through all seasons. During summer water is beautiful green, and in winter it's purple blue, and it's more beautiful when the snow is all around them. a lot of turist are comming here, from Europe, America and Asia.

One of the most beautiful spots in Croatia. It takes quite an effort to get there from Porec, the place I stayed at that time but that was definetely worth it. I only regretted I wasn't an experienced traveller enough at that time to travel in a mini-group. With large group it gets more complicated since crowds and divinity of nature hardly match. Everything is so enjoyable there starting from plum pasties sold by babushka at the entrance, a boat ride along the great laks and finishing beathtaking waterfalls and green-blue water around. You are lucky if you stay somewhere close by to have at least a few days for exploring the park.

Simply wonderful! It is a Croatian National Park, half way between Zagreb and Zara. You can walk around and see 16 lakes, linked by rivers, underground channels and waterfalls (but it all nature-made!!): there's a good net of paths and 18km of gangways!! The best period to go there is may/june, when the waterfalls are at top flow and there are wonderful flowers and trees! A little boat will bring you across the bigger lake to a restourant area where you can eat your packed lunch or buy something. During the hottest months the lake near the pic nic area and the inn is crowded by people who think it is a swimmig pool, but if you make some steps...wow!!

The National Park is simply beautiful. They have great walking tracks which can occupy you for at least two days. With a bit of luck you can spot a brown bear. During the summer its quite touristic and the two closest hotels are expensive, so I advise you to drive 10 minutes down the mainroad and pick one of the MANY roadappartments where you can sleep for already 5 euro's per person/per night, whre you stay with the locals.

Hey! I was there two times, one when I was a 10 years girl and second - two years ago. I must say that Nacionalni park Plitvička jezera is an icredible place if you like spending some time with pure nature, walking in bright green trees, browes in azure water and listen to the waterfalls, which there is a few ;) So I honestly say that this is the place you have to see in Croatia :)
