This place is really cool. During the plague, the cemetery around the church became too crowded, and eventually, there were a lot of extra human bones. In the late 19th century, an artist made sculptures from these bones, including a chandelier that has at least one of each bone in the human body. There are also small structures, coats of arms, and other sculptures, all made from human bones. You can easily see everything in less than 30 minutes, and some of the graves in the surrounding cemetery are also worth a look. This is easily one of the most unique places I've ever been, and I highly recommend it. It only takes about an hour by train from Prague, and when we went, the train fare was only 1 euro each way. We also had the cool experience of riding on some of the old trains (I'm guessing from the communist era?) to get there and back.

A strange experience indeed, this chapel is decorated with the bones of 40.000-70.000 people, most of them victims of the Black Death in the mid 14th century, and some from the Hussite wars in the early 15th century. The chapel itself was built around 1400. This is perhaps not a place for everyone, but for those who wish to stare death in the eye it makes a safe, yet chilling opportunity not easily found elsewhere.

As I waited in line to enter the Ossuary a British woman walked out, face pale and exclaiming, "That is the most barbaric thing I have ever seen in my life!" Well, that definitely sounded intriguing. Down I descended a short set of stairs and entered a crypt like no other: it had been decorated with the bones of over 40 000 humans. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, however, you have to love the plastic cherubs on top of the bone chandelier.

Fascinating ossuary beneath a Gothic church in a small town outside of Prague. Bones of 40-70k skeletons unearthed due to floods or construction have been cleaned and stacked / hung into numerous shapes from pyramids to chandeliers to a coat of arms. Definitely worth the trip out from Prague.

The ossuary is estimated to contain the skeletons of between 40,000 and 70,000 people , many of whom have had their bones artistically arranged to form decorations and furnishings for the chapel.
