The Columbus Lighthouse is a controversial monument and museum, built as a tribute to Christopher Columbus, 500 years after he reached the Americas . Construction began in 1948, and the building was inaugurated in 1992, when the disputed “remains” of Columbus were transported here from the Catedral Santa María La Menor. The building’s architecture is cross-shaped and represents the Christianization of America.

Even though the building is controversial, it still is worth visiting. The human remains inside the mausoleum may not be those of Columbus, but who's to say they aren't either? It's a possibility, and even if they aren't of the man himself the entire place is a wonderful tribute to him.
