Banos is the hands down the best tourist city to visit in Central Ecuador. The historic city has a beautiful church, great restaurants, and a thriving market. Additionally, it lies in the heart of the Andes mountains. Not only is the surrounding area beautiful, but it provides endless amounts of activities. The surrounding area includes an active volcano, dozens of waterfalls including El Paílón del Diablo, a huge waterfall you can hike behind. Banos also can't be overlooked for adventure travelers. Mountainbiking, canyoning, and whitewater rafting opportunities are abundant, cheap, and available for all levels through multiple tour operators. After an active day, there are many opportunities to relax at the city's multiple massage centers or the city's abundant thermal baths. Overall, Banos is a can't miss destination for anyone travelling to South America.
