Floreana is one of the oldest island, in the southern part of the Galapagos Archipelago. It is home to a very small population at Puerto Velasco Ibarra, which is rarely visited by tourists.

The attraction here is a hike past a flamingo lagoon and to a beach where sea turtles mate. There are endemic species of finch and lava lizards here as well.

Some of the best snorkelling and diving can be done at Devil's Crown island, off the coast of Floreana, where hammerhead sharks are known to congregate.

Floreana was a great island to visit, as it is a bit out of the way, so many tour boats do not go here. Our guide told us about the interesting human history of the island, which would make for a great movie. We saw lots of finches, flamingos, laval lizards, boobies, sea lions and sea turtles here.
