Research Station
The Charles Darwin Research Station is run by the Charles Darwin Foundation. The station near Puerto Ayora is the largest, and home to Lonesome George. Other research stations are on San Cristobal and Isabela islands. The purpose is to breed and re-introduce the endangered Giant Tortoises back onto their native islands.

Great place to see giant tortoises, land iguanas and finches... Very cute are the baby tortoises. I actually have my favorite tortoise called Santiago what actually gave me a kiss - beso tortuga ;) By the way the station is home of the one and only "Lonesome George". A must see when in Santa Cruz!

The CDRS on Santa Cruz is well developed with informative signs and tours by staff. You can get up close to the tortoises and learn about the breeding program, as well as issues surrounding their endangerment (such as feral goats). it is amazing to see how big these tortoises can be!
