Observing the tortoises here instead of at a research station is 100 times better. You are free to wander around some fields, paths and explore some water holes where the giant tortoises feel at home. Some of them may be 'wild', but they're mostly drawn to these ranches as they enjoy the vegetation provided to them. You will see huge tortoises, medium sized ones and even smaller ones here, eating, sleeping, mating, 'running' and generally hanging out. Be sure not to get too close to them, as they will hiss and retract their heads into their shells - give them space and enjoy the scenery! They eve have a couple of full grown (empty) tortoise shells here on display to help visualize just how big these creatures can get.
