Beautiful and historic, old town Quito is a perfect place to see art and architecture emblematic of Colonial times. You can really immerse yourself in the Ecuador's past, but with all of today's modern conveniences. The only downside is that you do have to be EXTRA mindful of your belongings,especially if you're using public transportation.

I enjoyed the quieter feel and interesting architecture of the Old Town, vs downtown Quito where most bars, hotels and restaurants are. Fun to walk around, there is a new photo opportunity around every corner (if you're not careful you can get lost in the windy streets though!)

It is known throughout travel books as being a little bit unsafe...I travelled alont and I think as long as you are aware of your surrounding, you should have no trouble enjoying the amazing architecture and great culture that is everywhere :)

So different to the newer area of Quito, nice to escape here for the day just wandering around!
