The name is derived from the Ancient Egyptian pharaohs , Ramses II whose statue was erected by Nasser on the square in 1955 .

It is a very huge and busy square where the main railway station is and there is also an underground (Metro) station as well, but the line does not run to the airport so no use to you for that.With 280,000 pedestrians and 2 million vehicles passing through it every eight hours, the square is rumored to be one of the most pullotes spots in all of Egypt. But I loved it sooo much! Seeing how many people in 1 place and it works!
