The massifs are divided into three botanical regions: the lower slopes that have been culviated and grazed, the once forested alpine regions, and the higher mountain grasslands. The mountain range is home to three of Ethiopia’s larger endemic mammals: the Walia ibex, the Gelada (bleeding heart) baboons, Ethiopian wolves, and the Simien Fox. Larger birds of prey include the Lammergeyer. The Siemien Mountain National Park is a popular destination for multi-day treks, and the infrastrucutre for guides, lodging, and routes is quite good. Popular stopover villages include: Sankabar, Geech, Chenek, Ambikwo, Ras Dashen, Mizma. Simien National Park is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Payment Accepted:
