The Turku Cathedral is a Evangelical Lutheran cathedral in Turku , Finland . It is the seat of The Archdiocese of Turku . The cathedral is located in the centre of the city, by the river Aura . It is the national place of worship and one of the most notable historical buildings in Finland. The church was originally built out of wood in the late 13th century , and was dedicated as the main cathedral of Finland in 1300 , the seat of the bishop of Turku . It was considerably expanded in the 14th and 15th centuries , mainly using stone as the construction material. The church was badly damaged during the Great Fire of Turku in 1827 , and was rebuilt to a great extent afterwards.

It is one of the most important churches in Finland.Construction began in th late 1200's and more and more portions were added to it.Chapels were build and used later for burial of of local heroes from the past .Check if live music is still offered on Tuesdays.

Quite impressive on both the inside and outside. A wonderful place to get married, apparently. Also the view from the top is supposed to be excellent although book in advance. I didn't and couldn't see it as a result.
