At the center of Paris, in the 4th arrondissement, Ile Saint Louis is surrounded by two arms of the Seine river. Its narrow streets are bordered by 17th century elegant buildings that escaped demolition when Baron Haussmann organized the renovation of Paris. It is a must be seen place to walk trough and enjoy the scenery. The famous ice cream maker “Berthillon” is easy to locate because of the long line of sorbet lovers. Originally there were two islets, island aux Vaches and Notre dame island. In the 17th century, they were assembled to create a new quarter with private hotels with beautiful facades and cast iron balconies. The streets are check-patterned. Two bridges connect the island to the main land of Paris.

The Ile Saint Louis is home to a lot of delightful sights and tastes of Paris. After you have visited Notre Dame and Saint Chapelle on the Ile de Cite, cross over the bridge to the Ile Saint Louis for the not to be missed chocolatier, Charlottes. They make the best hot chocolate I have had in my life melting chocolate bars into the warm, nearly out of the body experiential brew along with a pitcher of cold water to cleanse the palate. I drank two cups to my friend's one and felt a rarely felt chocolate high. On that day, we lucked out as they had a wonderful French pianist playing. she was the quintessential post WWII older woman who played for herself and we were privileged to partake. Charlottes also sells hand made chocolates. It is pricey but the best, I think in Paris. We also found the studio and apartment of famous French suclptress, Camille Claudel. See her work at the Rodin museum, another not to be missed museum.

The City of Light and Love is beautiful but i can't say I really enjoyed the people. Every other place in Europe i have been encourages the use of the language but the Parisians just don't seem to have the patience to work with you.

Totally French in Architecture, good ice-cream at Berthillon, and just a lovely place to have a wander. Walking along the quais along the river is lovely, as is seeing the view of Notre Dame.
