A former hospital built in 16 76, under Louis XIV, known as “Roi Soleil”, les Invalides had 4000 beds.

It is a huge spectacular golden dome with two churches underneath: one for the soldiers and one with Napoleon’s remains. A walk trough a formal garden and “Cour d’Honneur” (Army Museum) gives access to the building.

I totally love this place. There are two military museums here which feature armors from the Age of Chivalry, old-fashioned machine guns used during World War I II, and cannons strewn all over the place. There's also a chapel and a souvenir shop. Get your credit card ready too 'cause they use an automatic ticketing machine here. Les Invalides closes at 5 p.m. and the Tomb of Napoleon closes at around 3 pm, so better arrive early! Enjoy Les Invalides! You'll realize it here that war can be turned into some kind of art that's well worth exhibiting. ;-)

Napoleon’s Tomb is impressive and fitting for the man he was. To look at the tomb, you either need to look don and bow to him, or if you go to the lower section than you have to look up. Burried without his genitalia, the coffin is a layer of 7 coffins which is quiet interesting, considering he is was said to be quiet short.

We thought this place was just about Napoleon when we visited but it's about so much more than that. If you're interested in military history during any period from medieval thru to WWII then thisis the place for you. And even if you aren't a history buff you'll likely still find the place impressive. Napoleon's tomb didn't disappoint - he was buried with all of the grandeur you'd expect for someone of his historical significance!

The golden dome is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen, from the ground and from the top of the Eiffel Tower
