Famous, chic and animated quarter in the 6th arrondissement with an intellectual tradition, printing houses, bookstores, art galleries, antiques shops and recently exclusive cloth boutiques. Literary cafés such as “Les Deux Magots” et “Le Café de Flore” are renowned  because of the famous intellectuals who used to frequent it. It started with the construction of Saint-Germain Church in the 6th century where a rich intellectual life establishes itself.
In the 17th century, private hotels are built. Intellectuals such as Voltaire, Danton, Marat socialize at café Procope, now a restaurant, on rue de l’Ancienne Comédie. In spite of the destruction of the church during the French revolution, it maintains its intellectual tradition. Germain des Prés knows its best hours of glory after WWII when people have fun days (in cafés), and nights (in cellars), listening to be-hop, swing, boogie and jazz. Artists, poets and authors (Apollinaire Simone de Beauvoir et Jean-Paul Sartre) meet to write at «Les deux magots, le café Flore et la Brasserie Lipp ».Giacometti was also seen there and Mittérant was a patron of Brasserie Lipp.
Recently the quarter has lost some of its intellectual vocation, but two large bookstores (La Hune and L’Ecume des pages) remains opened until midnight.

The first time I came to France, this place was recommended as a nice area to walk around. If you have time, stopping at one of the cafés to relax and watch the people pass by is a nice way to spend the afternoon. It was here that I discovered Pâte de Fruit - fruit flavoured jellies. Yum!

Les bouquinistes et les cafes, ambiance litteraire ou les bobos d'aujourd'hui respireront l'air des annees fin 1960, et 1970... flaneurs et flaneuses seront combles.

Paris is the most wonderful city I've ever visited. I love the streets, the small cafe's, the shops, the markets and og course, the wine and food!

Its expensive and all the people are French.
Lookout for thieves and touts. Beating the elderly for money is acceptable when broke.

Great place to take a looong walk :) better start it in the morning, 'cause it can be difficult to finish before it gets dark :)
