Standing in the surf on Omaha Beach and then going up to the (very full) US military cemetery at the top of the beach cliffs is very moving. The surrounding area looks just like like what you've seen on the History Channel, except in color. Many of the German pillboxes and gun emplacements are still intact, many of the stone houses nearby have been visibly patched from artillery fire damage

It's a very interesting place, although I last visited it when I was a young teenager.
