Jul 1, 2008 A fantastic museum! It starts with a look at the life and methods of Jean-Francois Champolion, the French scholar who deciphered the Rosetta Stone and therefore first translated hieroglyphics. The rest of this impressive museum is about the history of writing systems, from cuneiform and Mayan glyphs to Chinese characters and Sinhalese script. It abounds with marvellous examples and a variety of materials, from scrolls and papyrus to tablets and wooden swatches. There's also an interesting study of the history of book forms and fonts.
