One of the oldest castles in the Loire Valley, Château d'Angers is a medieval style castle built in the 9th and early 13th centuries. This castle/fortress is built on a rocky ridge above the river Maine, and massive towers surround the castle's perimeters.

I first went here one summer with my friend Aaron when I was sent to France for training. We took a train from Paris to the Val de Loire for the weekend and this was one of the castles that Aaron really wanted to see. It was one of the older castles that we saw during the weekend, and it's most known for its Apocalypse Tapestry - a well preserved multi-wall painting. I really enjoyed visiting this castle.

I had to go here on a school trip (I also had to present on the Apocalypse Tapestries), so I was not really looking forward to any part of this trip. However, upon arriving at the Chateau, I found it was actually fantastic! The tapestries (it was once one long tapestry, but was split into many smaller pieces years ago) were gorgeous and it was a lot of fun to wander around the grounds.

An der Loire ist es nicht nur schön sondern sehr geschichtsträchtig! Nicht nur dieses Schloss ist interessant! Schloss Chambord ist noch schöner! Ein Abstecher dorthin rentiert sich!
