The site is the highest natural point in Marseille and has a beautiful overlook of the harbor and city. There is an outstanding statue of the Virgin Mary holding Christ after he was removed from the cross and there are beautiful mosaics inside. The site is a place where people from all over the world go for pilgrimage to request healing of various ills and sicknesses. There are hundreds of ex-votos within the church. It is well worth the steep walk up the road to the site.

Bon j'ai pas eu le temps de voir grand'chose à Marseille. Mais Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde vaut le déplacement. Facile d'accès, bon d'accord ça grimpe un peu (160m), depuis le Vieux-Port. Mais on y découvre une magnifique vue panoramique de Marseille. Et pour l'église, je la trouve magnifique. Reflet de la dévotion des Marseillais pour la "Bonne Mère", elle porte en elle les marques de l'histoire de la ville.
