This is the final stop along the French riviera before crossing the border into the more conservative Italy. I visited in 1989 and the beaches had an array of women topless sunbathing and in the nightclubs body painting naked women was all the fashion... interesting, but not for me. The usual assortment of really good French cafes and restaurants. At that time my French wasn't very good and not many people speak English that well... so it was a bit challenging linguistically. We stayed in a chateau up the hill near the border and the locals were helpful and happy to give us lifts into the town. I think there are more problems with gangs of pickpockets in the Ventimiglia markets than in Menton... get cheaper alcohol on the Italian side of the border. The lights of Menton are lovely, especially watching it from the rooftop sipping Campari and orange.
