Dec 4, 2008 If you are in Bavaria, you cannot miss going to Dachau. The museum has a wide collection of artifacts, photographs and documents on display. The bunkers are "preserved" in the horrific condition in which prisoners lived during that time. Visiting Dachau is an eye-opening experience (even though it is to some extent overwhelming), but it gives you a different perspective on how the events took place at that time than what we learn in books at school. The overall visit is sobering and the atmosphere is very eerie, but the lessons learned there I bet would last forever. May 11, 2010 The guided tour of Dachau was so moving. Our guide has met many Dachau survivors, giving us some genuine insight into the amazing people who lived to tell of the horrors of the camp. This is a place everyone should go to reflect on life, equality and justice. Though the visit made me melancholy, it also renewed my appreciation for what I have in life and strengthened the reality of how bad things can get. Nov 6, 2008 You should go there, even for just reminding yourself the horrors of human nature. There is also a quiet large museum with many exhibits about the rise and fall of such camps, that is worth seeing. And don't forget it is a part of recent European history and something we can all learn something from. Beware: there is not much left from the camp itself, just 2 or buildings and the fence. Nov 15, 2008 An eye opening experience. Reading about concentration camps is a lot different that seeing them. You can walk through the buildings where prisoners were kept, and read the profiles of some. Dachau was the first concentration camp in Germany, and many others were modeled after it. It also housed some famous prisoners, including Hitler's would be assassin. Jan 30, 2010 If your in the area, try to make a stop at this site. Dachau was the longest running concentration camp during the Holocaust. It has a museum as well as the crematorium and two of the original barracks. If you do go here, be aware that this site takes a lot out of you, drains you so to speak. However, it was a very educational museum.
