Bustling Alexanderplatz is at the heart of the Mitte district in Berlin.  It became a major nightlife and commercial centre, but  most of the buildings around the square were destroyed in World War II.

Alexanderplatz became the part of the city centre of East Berlin after the war and was used to showcase socialist architecture.   The huge Fernsehturm TV Tower is located nearby as well.

Today Alexanderplatz remains a major transportation hub and is often teeming with pedestrians.  There is a shopping mall and other stores, as well as restaurants along the plaza.

Alexanderplatz is like the heart of Berlin Mitte - you won´t find much traffic there, just trams, trains and pedestrians. It´s bustling with people! I´ve never seen such a busy place before (which might be because I´m a country bumpkin ;) ) but so many people feel the same. The history goes back to the 13th century when a hospital was built exactly where temain plaza is today. Some famous germans like Lessing or Heinrich von Kleist lived at this place for a while :) In World War II it was badly destroyed. Today you can find everything there - discos, bars, cafes, shops and so on. Defenately worth a visit!

Great place in Berlin ..... worth visited ... Most of the buildings on the square were destroyed by bombing during the second world war. As the center of East-Berlin, the square was used as a showcase of socialist architecture. This resulted in some plain bulky buildings and a huge television tower. You have to go to the top of it. There is a nice restaurant where you can eat sth and see the city ..... nice especially at night .....

Alexander Platz in very central, close to the cathedral and the top Museums in Berlin. The Fernsehturm (TV Tower) is interesting, and has a restaurant on the top floor. A bit further is the Checkpoint Charly, the Brandenburger Tor and the Reichstag, not very close, but I would recommend a walk to see the most interesting attractions of the city, that are on the way between the Alexander Platz and the Reichstag...

Mitte is the most artistic region of Berlin, lots of art galleries, nice restaurants and coffee shops, and also very close to many of the best museums in the world! Alexander Platz can be the central point of a cultural voyage!
