Jul 13, 2008 Hop off the train (S- or U-Bahn) at Warschauer Strasse and stroll down to the river. There you will find the start of the last mile long section of Berlin Wall to still stand. Stretching the length of Muehlenstrasse on the east bank of the Spree River, the Wall is a sombre reminder of the East/West division at the height of the cold war. The artwork that remains has been graffitied in many places, but I could still feel the emotions embedded in each symbolic picture. Walking along that cold mile of Wall is something that I will recommend to everyone. Give yourself time to walk it at your own pace, to be burdened with the emotions of the past, and to respect those that have lost in times of history's less honorable moments. Feel your freedom, and hope that it is never lost the way it was in that time, that place. Jun 25, 2010 This wall monument is unique in the world. It is a symbol to the history of Germany during and after the second world war. It still remains to remember the people of the world how one people got divided but became one again. It remembers us never to forget what happened and how people and generation suffered... How people were separated from their loved ones. How people lost their freedom and were trapped. How the Germans paid a high price. And how the will to become one again finally succeeded. Go there and see with your own eyes and believe the unbelievable! Besides it is a nice walk along the river Spree especially in summer. Lots of beach bars are located over here... Check them out! Oct 22, 2008 You couldn’t come to Berlin and not see the wall. To see it is a surreal experience that takes you back to a time of suffering many of us can only try to imagine. Entry Free (street side), closest metro is Potsdamerplatz you can then walk from here to the Brandenburg Gate. Jul 22, 2009 i was awed when i first saw the Berlin wall... to think of everything that had happened, and to think about all the people who died just trying to get to the other side... it really makes you thankful. To see how far Germany has come, especially Berlin, is amazing... and the good thing is that they aren't trying to hide their past. They display it, to make sure that no one will ever forget. The wall is DEFINITELY a must-see if you go to Berlin Oct 31, 2009 A must see! On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Wall, I was prompted to write a short personal account of my visit there in 1972. It was one of my most memorable travel moments. You can read the full account on my friend's blog at http://atavist.blogspot.com/2009/11/and-yet-more-berlin-wall.html -- I'd love to go back and see it again now that it's only ruins.
