Checkpoint Charlie was one of the main crossing points in the Berlin Wall providing access between East and West Berlin.   It provided the only crossing point into East Berlin for foreigners and members of the Allied Forces.  Today little remains of Checkpoint Charlie, but the history of the wall is remembered in the Haus am Checkpoint Charlie.

The Haus am Checkpoint Charlie is a museum that was founded in 1963 and has been expanded over the years.  It contains a fascinating array of escape photos and memorabilia.

The old access point which allied troops used to move between West Berlin and East Germany . It is here that their vehicles were scanned and searched for stow-aways from East Berlin . The museum here contains photos, relics and history on this check point and the people involved and is a must! Open Daily (9am -10 pm) the closest metro stop is stadtmitte.

We visited Berlin in December one week before the New Year.Minus 4 degrees during the day but the weather was excellent.This gave us the opportunity to walk as much as possible and so we arrived also at the famous Charlie check point.I heard so many stories and lets not forget the tens of movies where this check point is filmed.So a lot of history is going before your eyes when suddenly you are in front of the history!We took pictures with the soldiers(it costs a couple of euros or maybe five) I received five border stamps used in the sixties and you can buy endless souveniers.The place itself and the museum are worth the trip itself.

Was soll man in Berlin schon auswählen, da gibt es soooooooooooo viel.

this place is just loaded with history! i wish they had kept more of the original structure but you can still use your imagination to feel how crucial this crossing point was in german and world´s history. there was a public exhibit on the corners where the checkpoint used to be when i went. and my friends said that the museum is really impressive (i didn´t have time to go to the museum).

An interesting museum, not only in content but in set up... can be difficult to take it in with clashing displays and fonts in information, as if its been done in an ad hoc way. Worthwhile seeing from a historical perspective. Don't bother with getting your passport stamped, can be tricky to explain in real border crossings. If you must, take a piece of paper to be stamped instead;
