Museum Island (Museumsinsel)
About Museum Island (Museumsinsel)
Museum Island (Museumsinsel) is the name for the northern half of an island in the Spree River in the middle of Berlin. Museum Island is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and contains five museums, including the Altes Museum, the recently reopened Neues Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Bode Museum, and the Pergamon Museum. Of these, the Pergamon Museum is perhaps the most famous on Museum Island, as it contains reconstructed monumental buildings such as the Pergamon Altar and the Ishtar Gate from Babylon.

Oct 22, 2008 A culture vultures paradise, here you will find a number of museums and art galleries. Those which I would recommend are……. Peramon Museum- Includes the famous gates of Babylon and other fine examples of Roman architecture. German History Museum - Contains Nazi propaganda and general history from Roman times all the way to present day Aug 28, 2011 There are 5 museums on this "island" so there is surely something for everyone. I visited the Pergamon Museum (containing the reconstructed Pergamon Altar and other Greek art as well as the reconstructed Ishtar Gate of Babylon) and the Bode Museum (which contains sculpture collections and late Antique and Byzantine art). Jun 16, 2010 This collection of extraordinary museum on a small island in a city center is unique! The museum island offers something for everybody. The collections of art, artifacts and more are remarkable. For me the most beautiful is the Ischtar Gate at the Pergamon museum. Don't miss it!!! Oct 29, 2011 The Museuminsel is an Island with three museums in it. It's very near to Alexanderplatz and it's very very interesting for museum lovers. One should go there if there is time for it, since Berlin has many many sightseeing and it's not easy to see everything in a few days. Mar 7, 2010 If you like museums, you'll love this part of Berlin! Really easy to get to and once you're done getting cultured it's close to some good shopping streets as well. Make sure to check about opening hours. Lots of museums in this part of Europe aren't open on Mondays. Related Links
