Feb 22, 2009 Beelitz-Heilstätten is a fascinating hospital complex just southwest of Berlin. It was a German military hospital in the late 1800s to 1945, when Soviet forces took it over. Hitler recovered here from his wound in World War I, and Erick Honecker stayed here after the fall of the East German government in 1990. Some of the buildings remain active hospital buildings, but most are open to the elements. It makes for a very interesting place to explore!
