Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom)

The cathedral is a World Heritage Site, being one of the best-known architectural monuments in Germany and Cologne's most famous landmark, described by UNESCO as an "exceptional work of human creative genius". Cologne Cathedral is one of the world's largest churches, being the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe.The most celebrated work of art in the cathedral is the Shrine of the Three Kings, a large gilded sarcophagus dating from the 13th century, and the largest reliquary in the Western world. It is traditionally believed to hold the remains of the Three Wise Men, whose bones and 2,000-year-old clothes were discovered at the opening of the shrine in 1864.

If you like drinking beer out of huge pints then you should go to the "Octoberfesten" in Köln or in Munchen. You also can visit the "Dom", the biggest cathedral there. The city center is also nice to visit. Or if you like football (soccer for the americans) you have their team FC Köln or a little bit further you have Bayer Leverkusen.

If you've taken any Art history classes, or love Architecture, you should definately see the Kolner Dom. It's the largest Cathedral in Northern Europe and is the epitome of the Gothic stlye. Admission is free unless you want to climb 509 steps up a spiral staircase to a viewing platform, which is totally worth the climb.

This has to be one of the most remarkable examples of Gothic architecture ever. The atmosphere is wonderfully peaceful and inviting, not overwhelmingly tourist-oriented. It is still a sacred site. Visit all the little side chapels - some of them have some wonderfully surprising historical items!

Absolutely took my breath away. All the major cities in Germany have town squares, fountains and large clocks with cobblestone streets that bring history alive. I can say that it was one of the best experiences of my life. It was very cold at night, wear a coat.

Cologne Cathedral, is the main attraction. You can see the cathedral for miles. I used it to find my way around the city. The beauty of the Catherdral , is not even really captured in picture's. You have to see for yourself.

I know, it's THE attraction in Cologne and you've probably already heard of it... but it's true.. you just HAVE to see it! And make sure you climb the tower. It's not only good exercise, it's also an amazing experience!

One of the most beautiful cathedrals in Europe.  The Christmas Market there is outstanding with several vendors selling wooden trinkets and food.  After a visit to the market, you can have dinner at the Hard Rock.

Is the biggest cathedral in europe you can see the towers from anywere. The best view is when you cross the Rhine river through the two bridges that connects the downtown with the Koelnmesse

The Cologne Cathedral (Dom) is the place to visit in Cologne. The view of the Cathedral when you exit from the central station is incredible. Do not miss going up the towers of the Cathedral.

It only costs 2 Euro to go to the top of the tower. Even though it is a tough climb it is definitely worth it. You can see a view of the whole city from the top of the tower.

The climb to to the top of the spires is well worth the view. Incredible mosaic floors and impressive high nave. Used to be the world's tallest building before the Eiffel Tower wqs built.

Cologne Cathedral is an amazing piece of architecture to see both inside and out. It also has the most amazing acoustics if you ever get the chance to sing in it!

Great cathedral, even though it is a bit dark! If you have the courage (and the shape!), climb the stairs up to the top, the view of the city is wonderful!
