Jul 1, 2009 Altstadt Dresen is AMAZING. Most of it got bombed in World War II, so they are rebuilding its key structures (e.g, finished the old Frauenkirche a few years ago), but you could never tell by looking at it today. The architecture is akin to Prague in its magnificence (tho on a smaller scale), and I highly reccommend the Gruenes Gewoelbe museum - lots of jewels miniatures (recently remodeled also). It is just a breathtaking city center architecture-wise. Dresden is the capital of the lovely Saxony - if you speak German be prepared for the thick Sachsen accents ;) Sep 21, 2008 The "Dresdner Altstadt" is a quarter full of history. It is influenced by many archtictual styles, but in special barock. See the many historical buildings like the "Zwinger", the "Semper Oper", the "Grünes Gewölbe", the chateau, the world famous "Frauenkirche" and so on. The park "Großer Garten" is not far away and will wellcome you for rest. Or you do a little shopping on Prager Straße. Try to bee in Dresden during the Dixieland Festival if you like this kind of music and see, why Dresden is also called the New Orleans at the river Elbe! Jun 2, 2009 Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Aldstadt, previously left in ruins during the GDR era, is now beautifully reconstructed and restored, with ongoing excavation of remaining monuments and historical sites. This is a must-see area of the city and one of the best-preserved 16th-18th century old towns in central Europe! Mar 23, 2009 Charming medieval town, one of the hidden pearls of Saxony. Definitely worth a trip if you're in the vicinity.
