Initially inaugurated in 1719, the Zwinger was largely destroyed during the Allied bombings of 1945, before being rebuilt after the war. It is considered a triumph in Baroque architecture and has museums with outstanding collections. The Old Masters Gallery is perhaps the finest of the museums in the Zwinger. Focusing on the master artists of the 16th-18th century, it houses a small but outstanding collection that includes works by Rafael, Rembrandt, Vermeer, and El Greco among others. Raphael’s Sistine Madonna is considered a particular highlight. Other museums include an armoury with a fine collection of weapons and armour, a porcelain collection, and a math and physics museum. Outside on a terrace of the Zwinger is the Bath of the Nymphs – a fine piece of water art.

The Zwinger in Dresden however is part of a palace and hosted royal parties with music and fireworks.
It is surrounded by intricate buildings which these days contains some nice museums. One of them has a huge porcelain collection which also shows the first ceramic made in Europe which basically broke the Chinese monopoly.

prelepo zdanje koje je dom bogatoj galeriji koju mozete posetiti za oko 10 eura gde je ukljucena garderoba,ulaznica i mogucnost slikanja u pojedinim prostorijama....definitivno treba posetiti ako vas put navede u Dresden, prvo obici celo zdanje sa parkom i jezercetom van zdanja do koga se dolazi mostom ispod Kruna kapije, sacekati pun sat da zvoncici odzvone svoju melodiju, a nalaze se na kuli iznad glavnog ulaza u galeriju i na kraju uci u galeriju....

It's one of my favorite places in Germany. Zwinger's architecture is outstanding and near it is the oldcity with many churches. It is nice to look to this complex from another side of the river. You just need tp find a bridge. Don't worry it is near ;)
