Aug 30, 2008 A very sobering experience! You can easily get a bus from Weimar to go to the camp... it's not an expensive experience at all. (Small warning, people in smaller towns in German don't often speak english... not very well at least. Go with a translator!) Buchenwald, however, has many museums and gives a good idea of the terrors of the concentration camp. Most of the original buildings were torn down for fear of spreading diseases, but for some reason it doesn't really seem to take away from the experience. There is a lot to see... definitely worth the time to go see it.
