Cape Coast Castle

Cape Coast Castle is indeed a very sad place to visit. The Cape Coast Castle was the door to the unknown for slaves, the door was known as the "The door of no return". Female slaves killed their babies by throwing them against the walls of the dungeons, therby protecting them against a live of slavery. One of the first duch churches was also formed here, it is ironic that the church was build on top of one of the dungeons. window.google_render_ad(); window.google_render_ad();

Well kept fort on the Ghanaian coast, a few hours car ride from Accra. It has been owned by danish, swedes, brits, dutch during the slave trade/colonial years and is now a museum. Well worth a visit for us westerners to learn valuable lessons of what our ancestors, arab tradesmen and greedy african chief s did to the african people... there are a couple of decent hotels and some fairly good restaurants in the city, so there is no problem to stay for a night or two, combining a visit with some other activities available in the area

While Cape Coast Castle is definitely worth a visit while in Ghana I found Elmina Castle to be a better, more informative place to visit.  The tour groups at Cape Coast Castle were a little large and the guide didn't seem as well informed as our guide at Elmina.
