The World Heritage listed Monastery of Osios Loukas was built in 1011 by the Emperor Romanos and is dedicated to Holy Luke, a local hermit.
The main church contains some of Greece's finest Byzantine frescoes as well as glorious mosaics and fine icons.
The monastery is located 8km of the village of Distomo in Central Greece, and approximately 40 km from Delphi.
The setting on the slopes of Mount Elikonas is idyllic.
If you're only going to see one Byzantine church, make it this one!

Of the most famous and well preserved chapels in Greece, its location, close to the ancient site of Delphi makes for an ideal excursion. Especially if you are into churches, this is one of the oldest preserved ones.
