If you are up to it, you can climb to the Palamidi Castle through these 999 steps. Mind, there are no luxuries and only few places to rest (larger steps) so pack lots battles of water and (if needed) food. I personally think it is worth the trouble and it makes for a far better experience than the castle itself.
