Iceberg
The Ilulissat Icefjord runs for about 40 kilometres westward from the Greenland Ice Sheet to Disko Bay.   Within the Icefjord is the Jakobshavn Isabrae glacier - considered one of the most productive glaciers in the northern hemisphere, flowing at a rate of 20-34 metres per day.  It is one of the few glaciers through which the Greenland ice cap is able to reach the sea.    The result is approximately 20 billion tonnes of icebergs passing out of the fjords each year.  The icebergs range in size, but can get as large as one kilometre in height.  Large icebergs can travel quite far before melting.

Watching the dramatic landscape and hearing the breaking of the icesheets as icebergs are calved can   be an awe-inspiring experience.  Try viewing this spectacle under the midnight sun for an even more awe-inspiring experience.

Welcome to one of the most awesome places in the world ! if you can, try to stay at the camp site (if you're not afraid of mosquitoes or travel there after mid-July) then you will be very closed to the icefjord and will hear the ice cracking, crazy sound ! Go on the top of the hill just nearby and enjoy the view at the midnight sun with Disko Island in front of you and the icebergs coloured like gold... really amazing :)
